Building in the Open: Why We Made Vark 100% Free, Open-Source, and Local-First

When we founded LUVEO Technologies, our goal was clear: build the core software infrastructure required to make autonomous AI agents safe, reliable, and accessible to every developer on earth.

As agents gain execution capabilities across terminals, servers, and corporate databases, safety infrastructure cannot be a luxury SaaS add-on. Firewalls, sandboxes, and audit logging are foundational safety infrastructure for the next generation of computing. That is why we made Vark (@saturn/vark) 100% free, fully open-source (Apache-2.0 / MIT), and completely local-first.

Our philosophy rests on three pillars. First, security demands total transparency: security through obscurity is a fallacy, and black-box guardrail APIs asking for trust are unacceptable — Vark's code, gate algorithms, and scanners are open on GitHub for global peer review.

Second, zero vendor lock-in and zero SaaS dependencies: no cloud tier, no usage meters, no paywalled gates. Vark installs as a pure local dependency, running entirely inside your host runtime, container, or edge environment with zero external telemetry.

Third, fostering an open agent ecosystem: with a free, enterprise-grade firewall, developers building on Saturn AI, LangChain, LlamaIndex, OpenAI, Anthropic, or Vercel AI SDKs secure their agent loops immediately — no cloud API costs, no infrastructure bloat.
